LTE Backup & Failover (Business Continuity)

Last updated on Dec 08, 2025

LTE backup ensures your business remains online even if your primary internet link goes down. Your router automatically switches to mobile data without interruption.

How Failover Works

  1. The router detects loss of NBN/Fibre connectivity

  2. The 4G/5G SIM activates

  3. Internet traffic is routed through mobile until the primary link returns

This process typically takes 5–30 seconds, depending on your hardware.

What You’ll Notice During Failover

  • Slight speed reduction (mobile networks are shared)

  • VoIP services may experience minor jitter

  • Cloud apps may reconnect quickly

  • VPN tunnels may temporarily drop

Failback (Returning to Primary Link)

Once the main connection restores, the router automatically switches back to the higher-speed service.

This is seamless and usually unnoticed by your team.

Troubleshooting LTE Backup

1. No failover occurred

Check:

  • LTE light is on

  • SIM is inserted correctly

  • Router model supports dual-WAN

2. Slow speeds on LTE

Factors include:

  • Tower congestion

  • Poor indoor signal

  • Heavy bandwidth use

  • Hardware limitations

3. Stuck on LTE

Common reasons:

  • NBN link flap

  • Incorrect WAN settings

  • Faulty cabling

  • Upstream carrier issues
