Overview
Emergency Lift Phones are designed to remain operational during power interruptions, but how they behave during an outage depends on the hardware, power source, and backup configuration.
This article explains what to expect during a power outage and what checks should be performed.
Power outage behaviour (general)
During a mains power outage:
-
Lift phones may continue to operate if backup power is present
-
Phones will not operate if both mains and backup power are unavailable
-
Connectivity depends on the active network path (LTE, fixed, or failover)
Common backup power options
Depending on installation, backup may include:
-
Building-supplied UPS
-
Integrated device battery
-
External power backup solutions
Backup duration varies and is determined by the buildingβs electrical design β not the lift phone service itself.
What to check after a power outage
After power is restored:
-
Confirm lift phone powers back on
-
Check LED status (see LED guide below)
-
Perform a test call
-
Confirm monitoring status (if applicable)
If the phone does not recover automatically, contact Pickle Support.
Important safety note
If a lift phone is known to be offline following a power outage, building management should treat this as a safety issue and follow internal escalation procedures immediately.
